New User Questions

Does SD need to be launched for backups to occur? And, will SD wake a sleeping Mac to perform backups?

Thanks

No, it doesn't need to be launched, but you do have to be logged in, in front (if using Fast User Switching) and the screen can't be locked.

SD itself won't wake the Mac, but if you take a look in the User's Guide under scheduling, it explains what to do. (You can find the User's Guide, which has lots of useful information, in Help > User's Guide.)

Hope that helps!

Wow, talk about good timing, I was just looking this up! :) I have my Linux box sending the mac a 'wake on lan' packet at 1:57AM and SuperDuper scheduled to run at 2AM. It didn't work, now I see that I need to make sure the current 'in front user' is set up as we use Fast User Switching.

My question:

Is there a way to set up SuperDuper globally, or do I need to login as each possible user, register the product, and set up the options? I've already done this for the 2 most common users, can do it for the rest if that's the only way.

Thanks!

Lee

You can try to enable the root user and installing as root, Lee. That might allow it to run for any of them...

Hi Dave,

I'm an OS/X n00b, and since it's my wife's box and she's the one logged in 95% of the time, I think I'll just play it safe and configure her and me. The kids are supposed to logout when they're done to save RAM/resources, but well, they're kids and that doesn't always happen... But they're getting better! :)

Thanks for the suggestion never the less. I'll spend a little more quality time with the Users Guide as well.

Hope you and yours have a happy and prosperous new year!

Lee
