Trying to Restore from Sparsebundle But Disk Utility Can't Find Disk Image at Startup
Hi, I've got SD! cloning my laptop's hard drive nightly onto a sparsebundle stored on a NAS box accessed as a SMB share.
I haven't had the occasion to perform a Restore so I thought I'd go through the steps before the need arises! When I boot from my Snow Leopard Installer DVD, there isn't a way for me to mount the SMB share and therefore navigate to the sparsebundle image. Is there something I need to configure on the NAS box so that it's recognized at startup by Disk Utility? THX. |
In general, no - networking isn't available. You should install OSX to a small drive, such as a thumbdrive, boot from that, and you'll have a full environment from which to restore.
Alternatively you can use another Mac, along with FireWire disk mode, if you have one. |
Thanks Dave. Maybe a separate blurb explaining how to restore from an image located on a network device (using a thumb drive, etc) would help users avoid the mistake of attempting to do so by referring to the screen shot on p.28 of the user's guide.
