Recovery procedure from network backup

Just in case I need to know quickly......

My set up is MacBook (10.4.9) being backed-up over LAN to Windows server (xp sp-2) i.e. a sparse image.

My SD scripts/schedule produce (1) a weekly backup of user files excluding photos and music folders and (2) a monthly full backup.

What is the recommended procedure for recovering from my full backup assuming I can't boot form the MacBook's HD ?

Let's say that recovery was successful and I now wish to get up to date by recovering a later weekly backup on top of it. How would I go about that ?

Thanks.

You'd want to boot from something that allows full access to your Windows network to restore, or you could copy the image to something that can be accessed by the Mac during recovery using the steps in "Recovering from a disaster".

A "user file" backup like that could be copied in using "Copy Newer" when booted from another volume. But, in general, I suggest full backups, rather than subsetted ones -- it makes it much easier to restore, and that way you're assured you don't miss something important that might be outside /Users...
