Target disks sequential naming

On occasion I want to start things from scratch by cloning my main drive to my target backup drive for various reasons. Whenever I do, the target drive's name appears in the drop-down menu with a sequential number following it (e.g., MyDrive, then MyDrive 1, then MyDrive 2, etc.). I'd much prefer that it kept just the name of the drive instead of the numbered version.

Is there any way that I can tell SD to rename that target drive in the drop-down menu or prevent it from numbering sequentially?

Thanks.

The number is there because your drive keeps failing and leaving bad mount points (or mount points converted to real folders), Scott... if you open /Volumes with Finder's "Go To Folder" command you'll see what I mean.

You should delete the folders there (NOT links/aliases) and restart your Mac... but need to determine why the drive is failing in the first place.

Many thanks, Dave. As usual, your response was clear, quick and correct.

To be on the safe side I simply reformatted the drive and reset the backup on SD. When I launched SD the name of the drive, sans numbers, appeared in the drop-down list and I was able to select it and start the copy.

The first clone ran last night and by this morning it had completed without errors. I appreciate your help. Response like this, in addition to your great product, is why I always recommend SD as the #1 backup. I tell my friends, "Time Machine restores files. SuperDuper restores peace of mind."

Please do keep an eye on it. If numbers start appearing again, it indicates an underlying drive (or FW/USB/Cable/etc) issue.

Good tip - thanks. Will do.
