Where to find iCloud files on backup drive
 

I just did a backup too and want to confirm that my files from iCloud are backed up. The files do exist locally on my laptop as I can see them when I go into Library / Mobile Documents.

I can't figure out how to access the same(?) folder on the external drive.

You should be able to use Go To Folder to open

/Volumes/the-backup-drive/Users/your-user/Library/Mobile Documents... remember that Library is hidden by the OS.

(Note, though, that we consciously do not back up things in CloudStorage.)

Can you define what you mean by CloudStorage?

Yes, ~/Library/CloudStorage.
