Backup user files suppress system files from a clone
Hello,
I made a clone and update it every month or so using "Backup - All files" with smart update. At the same time, I have a scheduled script running twice a day to backup only my user files. For this script I logically select "Backup - User files" and exclude some big folders which do not change frequently. This stategy to have a daily backup of my work which would take much less time that the Backup all files. The problem is that the "Backup - User files" script keeps on deleting all other files on the hard drive. I end up with only the user folder on the backup drive. What I'm looking for is to have a complete clone with only the user folder updated daily. Am I doing something wrong ? Thanks, Stéphane |
You can't really do that, Stéphane. You should use "Backup - all files" each time. Since the other files aren't changing frequently anyway, it won't really take any longer -- and won't delete the other files.

IF you have room on your destination drive for both a "backup all files" backup AND a backup of your user folder, you could also partition that drive into two volumes -- one larger one for your full complete backups and one smaller one for the user folder backup. (The latter one of course would not be a bootable volume.) |
