Clone to target drive smaller than source

I read somewhere (not here) that when cloning, it was necessary to have the target drive at least the same size as the source- wondering if this is correct.

I just purchased a 320GB external Firewire drive to back up my 250GB IMac intel and my wifes 80GB MacBook Pro intel. I do not need all that space on the Imac, and planned to partiton the FW drive to 220GB for the IMac and 80GB for the Macbook- and clone each using Superduper!, followed by regular scheduled backups

Will SuperDuper! have any trouble with the fact that the IMac source of 250GB exceeds the partitioned target, with only 220GB?

As long as the occupied file space doesn't exceed the capacity of the drive (plus 15-20% or so for free space if you want to boot from it), that's just fine.

Many thanks, Dave!
