booting from SD-backup only once

Hey there. I like SD so far but I have a problem. I backed up my whole system to an external Firewire- HD. SD offered me to automaticly boot from that disk after a succesfull backup – hurray, everything went smooth. I could run the backed-up system from my external drive.
But here comes my problem: When I try to boot from the external drive myself (option-key or t-key when starting the computer) the external drive doesn`t show up. This is very strange because I am shure that there is no problem with filesystem, fw, the user privileges or s.th.; booting was possible when SD did it but not when I tried it later. I am cluless.

A few things -- are you sure you were actually running from the external drive? Try starting from it with the Startup Disk preference pane, and then verify in "About This Mac" (if you're running a recent build of Tiger).
