Snow Leopard Backup

I just did an install of Snow Leopard and proceeded with a SuperDuper backup.
Has anyone else done this and experienced an unusually longer time for the backup to be completed.?
On Leopard it took approx. 2hrs, and now on SL it took just under 5 hrs. I should also mention that this is to an external drive. (OWC 320GB Pocket drive, using Firewire 800)

How large was the backed up volume and was it smart update or backup to dmg-image? I also noticed this with my SL backup. In leopard it took me about 3 hours, while with SL 5 hours when backing up to dmg-file. The backed up volume is about 100 GB.

Your initial backups are going to be slower/longer because you're copying everything. Most of the time for a DMG backup is taken converting the file from a sparse image to a DMG, and that's all done by the system - we give it a single command and it does the whole thing itself...

Snow Leopard Backup

Thanks, I have also read all the related posts. I was backing up approx 60GB by the way.

Slow copy + Random failures

I also am finding the Smart copy with Snow Leopard very slow, and that is after the initial copy. Also it has started to fail atfter a random interval, a differnt number of files copied each time. The last occasion I did not use the computer, only SuperDuper was active.

Random failures and slow copying is very likely due to destination drive failures, John...

For what it's worth (or not) I have found subsequent (to initial cloning) smart updates to actually be significantly faster under the SD 2.6.1/Snow Leopard combo than before.
