Exempting files from deletion

To All.
How do you exempt files from being deleted from your back up drive during back up? Obviously I have some files I would like to keep on my back up drive while deleting on my computer.
Thanks,
Jesper
PS: I did do a search but I'm not very good at it

You can't really do that - you should create a separate "archive" partition/volume and move the files there. And remember - if they're worth "keeping" they're worth backing up, so you should ALSO back up your archive.

Thanks Dave.
If I create a new/separate partition in disk utility will it erase the original back up?

It might or might not - sometimes it can partition without erasing data. Sometimes it can't...
