Backing up just the bootable system

Is this even possible? All I am looking for is a bootable OSX disk - no files - nothing else.

This is to be an optional boot drive for an iBook G3 PPC which is currently running under OS9.1 and does not have the system disks to move to OSX - however - it WILL boot and run with a SD backup of a OSX 10.4.11 iMac G5 PPC drive.

Alternatively, I could erase all unnecessary files/programs off of a SD backup and then back it up again to a smaller drive? Ideally I would be able to put it on a flash drive, but I don't the the old iBook can boot to flash drives (at least not easily). A bus powered notebook drive would also be perfect though.

Does this sound feasable - or just crazy? LOL

I think you need to look at a product such as "Das Boot", from SubRosaSoft.

Thanks - that looks promising!
