Does one have Journaling on and one not?

mortenosx 11-01-2005 02:48 PM

Journaled

They are both extended (journaled)

I don't know, Morten. We're copying the files that are there, as files. Why they'd be taking more or less space has to do with the way the OS is storing them. But we're not skipping them, or parts of them, nor are we adding to them...

Is the difference ...

virtual memory?

I'd expect that to go the other way, macfeller -- you'd end up with less space on the source than the destination, not the other way around.

Morten

Just a thought (because it has happened to me, tho' not having to do with S/D.) Are you sure both drives really ARE 233 gb, or are they both called that or 250 or some such? I ask because right now, I have three supposed 60 gig drives, from three manufacturers, all formatted the same by the same OS, and they are all different, ranging from a formatted low of 53.7 gigs to a formatted high of 57.8. Disk Utility will tell you what they actually are. (And if they actually both ARE 233, then i'm sorry to have wasted your time.)

One disk is 233,64 gb
and one is 233,62 gb

dnanian 11-03-2005 10:19 AM

Well, it's rather strange that they'd be different at all. Again, I think this is more a difference between the drives and the way they store things than it is a problem with some wacky copy problem in SuperDuper!

i have tryed again - to backup the two disks

This time - they are the same, after backup - the machine has not been off at anytime ??

dnanian 11-03-2005 10:56 AM

It's possible that, on a transient basis, one of the files grew before we backed it up, and shrunk after. This could even be a logfile, or something like that.
