Activities During Cloning, Allowable?

I presume there are certain things that must not be done while cloning, such as running other utilities, e.g., DiskWarrior, TTP, Cocktail, and the like.

But how about the more mundane/routine functions, like surfing, cutting & pasting, sending email, etc?

It seems to me that doing most anything can cause problems in that preferences, cookies, file locations, caches, etc. may all be in play.

So, if any of what I said make sense and it is a reasonable presumption, is it best to quit all running applications and keep hands-off during the cloning process? Or, am I reading more in to the issue than is necessary?

In general, we suggest that you not use the computer while you're backing up. That way, your backup will contain what you expect it to. In addition, you won't end up trying to write something at the exact same time SuperDuper! is trying to back it up.

It's not possible, though, to stop everything on the computer and back it up (unless you boot from something else). OSX has lots and lots of things running at the same time.

So -- minimize your use, and that should be fine.

Thanks Dave!

That's much as I suspected, but my well-reasoned, thoughtful, logical, sound, and intuitive conclusions, are on occasion, known not to resemble any of that!

Well, I'm happy to offer a supporting opinion when needed!
