This has been all cleared up now thanks to your fantastic support! It was evidently something extraneous to SuperDuper! In any event, just did another backup and it went flawlessly...no overheating...

SuperDuper! causing overheating
While I realize SuperDuper is processor intensive...I just want to make sure it's not causing unnecessary hardware stress. Every time it runs my fan speed (on a late 2008 solid aluminum MacBook)...

I've been thinking about this some more...I may go buy another portable Passport Studio and just dedicate it to SD. That still keeps things simple. It wouldn't be all that smart to put both backups...

If I want to include files or folders in my User Backup that are not physically located in the /Users folders, can I add Symlinks to the /Users folder...and will they be also backed up? Thanks.

Will SuperDuper! conflict with Time Machine?
If Time Machine is doing its hourly updates to an external drive and SuperDuper! starts a SMART Update of my user files going to that same drive...what happens? Does SuperDuper! sense the drive is...

You're right about that. Maybe bolding "will preserve your Time Machine backups on My Passport" on the main GUI? At least that doesn't take up any extra space.
