Hi Dave,

Do you mean I should connect the external drive by FW400 and use SD that way and resort to USB 2.0 if I need to boot from it?

Also will APM allow it to boot the Mac Pro via USB 2.0?

Do you recommend doing the same thing on the backup...

I think I solved it.

What I did was go into TextEdit, set the format to plain text, and listed:

var
etc
tmp

Saved as .hidden to the root level of the drive.
Restarted - the folders are now invisible. Ran Disk...
