I am not sure how "the G Drive Q instructions" say to partition their drive, but most partitioning software will erase any/all existing partitions before repartitioning the drive. I am guessing (only guessing) that when you partitioned, you lost the Mac backup partition and its info.
Should be no harm done; just re-backup, assuming there is a new partition on the drive which is large enough to hold your backup.
