Disk repair not working repair permissions taking longer than normal

Hi Dave, case 74594

I decided to move this issue to the forums in case anyone else has the same issue.

After a long night of restoring I finally got the sparse image to restore to my new hard drive and leopard booted just fine.

I wanted to check disk speed so I went to do some repair disk permissions. this does take some time, but on my other drive it usually gets passed the "reading the permissions database" fairly quickly and then trudges along. Now its stuck on that task for a long time. I haven't let it run for an hour, but its been many minutes with no movement.

I then wanted to do a disk repair, just to see what would happen. I booted from my OS X disk and proceeded to the disk utilities. When I went to do a disk repair I get "drive could not be unmounted" in red text.

Any suggestions other than restore it again and see what happens? Do I need to do a Time Machine Backup as well? I don't really want to.

Is there a log file I could post?

Thanks.
