"My Book" drives are terrible.

Just my 2 cents- as a consultant serving both home and office users, I have seen more of these "My Book" drives fail than all other external drives combined. Some of them overheat, some corrupt themselves inexplicably, some simply won't power up after mere months of light-to-moderate use.

I'm very confident in Western Digital internal hard drives- I have a 500gb Scorpio Blue in my MacBook, and it takes all the abuse I can dish out... I'm just a bit baffled how Western Digital could produce such lousy external drives!

In the spirit of recycling- I advise those who own an ailing My Book to invest in a quality external enclosure from Other World Computing (my favorite), and pop the bare drive from the My Book into it. Nine times out of ten, the drive itself is perfectly fine once installed in a real enclosure and reformatted.

Cheers!
