SuperDuper! Remote Full Backup to a new large HD on Lunux/XP
I like to replace 20G OS 10.3.9 drive with Seagate 160G on iMac G3.
I do not have 10.3.9 OS CD. Can I use SuperDuper backup data/clone OS X to the Remote Linux machine or XP? Then replace it with new 160G HD for my iMac. Is it going to work? |

No, that's not going to work. Neither XP nor Linux can directly support an HFS+ volume (and SuperDuper! can't copy directly to a drive over the network even if it could).
If you want to do this, you'd need to get a FireWire or USB case for the drive, copy to it, then swap the internal drive for the new one. Note, though, that the G3 iMac might not support a 160GB drive...

I have an external R/W CD, and
1. can I use SuperDuper to perform backup to writable CD? 2. can I generate a bootable CD from my existing OS? 3. I do not have a 10.3 bootable CD. I am thinking to get a Tiger DVD so I can SAFELY upgrade to a larger HD. I do have an external firewire 80G HD, but I do not know how to open it up. |

SuperDuper! doesn't support optical media, no, so that won't work. You can use BootCD (see VersionTracker) to create a bootable CD, though.
You don't have to open your external FireWire disk. Instead, you can copy to it, rename it to the same as the source drive, start up from it, replace the internal drive (do not erase it in case you have a problem), then copy back. Make more sense?

BootCD (VersionTracker)
What is that? I am an Apple OSX newbie. Is it part of SuperDuper! or OSX utilities?

It's a 3rd party OS X Utility.
