What is ACLs?

Under the advanced tab, there is a selection that asks if I want to "Copy ACLs from ..."

I cannot find a mention in the user document. What is ACL?

ACLs are "Access Control Lists", a standard part of Leopard and Snow Leopard security. This option should be on (the default) unless we indicate otherwise, and is disabled when ACLs are not available.
