on rebooting cloned volume-wierdness

10.4.7 on a pmG5. SD backup to blank volume on OWC external firewire. Backup went fine. Script rebooted to newly created volume. Blue Screen, Mac logo; seems to be loading. Then Mac logo overlayed with login window. Can't login with user name and password (which is administrator).
