New Mac, upgrading from OS 10.3 to 10.4
Right, I'm about to get a new PowerMac (lucky me) which will ship with OS 10.4. Due to the failure of my Powerbook I'm currently working on an old eMac booting from an nexternal Hard Drive which (thanks to SuperDuper!) contains my whole 10.3.9 system and all my files as well as my installations of MySQL databases etc.
What I'd like to do when is keep my set up pretty much as it is, move everything to the HD in the new PowerMac, but also upgrade to 10.4 at the same time. My first thought was to just start booting from the 10.4 system in the PowerMac and gradually copy things across from the external Hard Drive. However would the following work? Could I use SuperDuper to overwrite everything on the PowerMac so that it runs my 10.3.9 system and then boot from that. Then use the 10.4 disks to upgrade the system (using Archive and Install) from 10.3.9 to 10.4 whilst maintaining all my old settings and preserving the MySQL databases etc... Would that work, and would it be my best option. Thanks. Al. |
