Resource busy failure
I had this same problem awhile back. We worked it out as computer going to sleep. I just did an erase copy scheduled last night. After some short period of time while replicating data volume, I got the resource busy error message. I reran this morning with sleep never and it worked fine. Ever since running SD 3.x, I setup a shell script that executes before copy, that starts Coca.app (to keep from sleeping), which obviously doesn't work. When I checked on my scheduled run from last night, computer was sleeping and coca was activated.
Anyone know how to wake computer and keep awake during SD? Macbook Air M1, Mac OS 15.5.1, SD 3.6.2 |

This is only an issue when Apple's replicator is used. I would suggest not scheduling it to erase, and do that manually - use Smart Update on a schedule.
We can hope Apple will fix this at some point; they're certainly aware of the issue.

Thanks Dave, I normally do "Smart Update" on my schedule. I wanted to bring my system up-to-date. What happens if I manually erase and then "Smart Update?"

That won't copy or update the OS on Big Sur and later; please reference both "What's going to happen?" and the blog post about this:
