I used SD to make a complete backup to my external firewire LaCie drive. I checked that I could boot off the external drive (I could but see my other posting on this subject).
I run a G4. The first attempt using the default option went belly-up. It also hosed my G4 boot disk. I tried re-installing Leopard but files left from the first attempt forced me back to the 'installation failed' point. So I rebooted into Tiger using my external drive (thank you SD) and cleared out all the obvious stuff left by the first Leopard install on my G4 boot disk. I then decided to go for an erase and install option with Leopard since I saw little point in re-installing Tiger or even bothering to restore my backup from the external drive. This installation went fine. I chose the option during the instal to migrate over my data from the external drive. All data transferred over flawlessly. I'm up and running Leopard. Roundabout answer to your question but hope it helps/gives confidence. Oh yes.....ensure you run disk utilities and repair permissions on the external drive. |
