It means the image -- which has a size limit equivalent to the size of the original source volume -- is full. If you look at it in Finder (Get Info for the volume), I htink you'll find that to be the case.
Perhaps you were downloading while you were backing up? The Troubleshooting section of the User's Guide has a discussion...
