Smart Backup Error

Dave

I've been running from "Sandbox" and backing up my main HD daily to "Backup". Tonight Smart Backup quit twice on an error during the daily backup. Here's tonight's log. Can you help?
Thanks, Bill

Looks like some kind of directory damage. I'd run either Disk Warrior or Disk Utility (maybe) on the original volume (Macintosh HD).

Dave

I'll do that. Since I attempted the "smart update" has "Backup" been damaged or is that still ok as of the last successful "smart update"?

It's likely that this one bad file is not copied, but since it's a Safari Cache that's likely OK.

Thanks Dave.
I ran disk utility which repaired 1 of 2(?) volumes on my HD (The drive isn't partitioned!!!). Disk Warrior rebuilt the directory. Now, after installing a new drive 2 weeks ago, the hardware test shows a drive error again, error code 2STF/8/3. This is the same thing I had previously (my thread under "New User Strategy"). I'm starting to get paranoid. Do you have any ideas?
Do you think I should do a "smart update" now?
Thanks
Bill

Not again! Bill, I'd suggest calling AppleCare again. You might need a mid-plane assembly as well as the drive...

Thanks again dave
I intend to call AppleCare as soon as they're available. My questions at the moment are; did I copy the bad directory to Backup? Shoud I Smart Update now with my repaired main drive?

I don't think you need to re-Smart Update, unless you want to. The folder that was messed up was one that doesn't really have much impact...

Apple gave me a new computer today and I planned on copying "Backup" to the new HD. However, when attempting to repair permissions prior to erase & copy, SD aborted. Disk Utility quit also when attempting to verify/repair permissions with the message: Error, No Valid Packages (-9997).
The disk itself, however, was verified. Sandbox is ok.
Can you help?

Thanks
Bill

That sounds like you repaired permissions on a drive that doesn't have any OS.

That's my "Backup" which I've "Smart Updated" every day. Does that make sense?
Any ideas how to proceed?

Now that I look at it, it appears that the system folder on "Backup" is not blessed, nor is it on the new HD. I can boot from both, however.

Well, it's looking for stuff in /Library/Receipts to use to repair permissions with. If there are no receipts there, repair permissions won't work.

Are there files in /Library/Receipts on the source?

I don't know what you were using for "Backup", Bill. If there were receipts on the source, they'd be copied as long as you were using 'Backup - all files' as your script, regardless of your copy method (Smart Update, etc.)

I guess I need more information about exactly how you created Backup and the Sandbox to give any kind of diagnosis. If you've got a SuperDuper!.log in Library/Logs off your Home, send it into support and I'll take a look.
