I just want to backup certain files, not create a Bootable disk

Hi there,

All I want to do is use SuperDuper to backup certain essential folders in my Pictures folder to a small external hard drive. I have no need to make this drive bootable. I've created a new script that copies just those files but when I run the script, at the bottom of the 'process list' in section 3 ("After Successful Copy") is the instruction 'Make Pictures Backup bootable'.

I don't want to make it bootable, I just want to copy the files. Any way of disabling this?

Nothing to worry about, owen-b. The step is always there, and succeeds if:

- The drive has an OS on it and it was successfully 'blessed' (made bootable).

or

- The drive has no OS on it so it doesn't need to be made bootable.

So, in your case, nothing was done.

Cheers, Dave.

It would appear, however, that I've completely misunderstood how to set up a script to copy just those very specific folders. I thought all I had to do was create a new Script, then in Script Commands add just the folders I wanted to copy.

In the main menu I would then select Copy Macintosh HD to Pictures Backup using 'Pictures Backup Script'. However, all that seems to have done is attempt to copy the Macintosh HD - and it's failed because the external drive is only around 139GB whereas my Mac is 750GB.

So how do I make a rule that just copies those specific files, and how do I make it work in practice?

Cheers!

You need to add a script in the "Include" tab -- "Exclude all files".
