Issues using bootcamp on duplicated drive
I just upgraded my harddrive from the stock 160gb 5.4krpm to a 320gb 7.2krpm in my macbook pro
I put my new drive in an external enclosure and used SuperDuper to clone my old drive over to it as was recommended in numerous places. First off, the process took nearly 48hours to backup 80GB worth of data. That doesn't sound right considering I tried transferring data to another drive in the same enclosure and 20gb took only like 8 or 9 minutes to transfer. Is it normal to take so long? I swapped out the drives and everything seems to be working perfectly, however when I went to create a new bootcamp partition it gave me this error: Quote:
I read around and some places said running a defragmenter MIGHT solve the problem, plus the defragmenter costs $35 or something like that. It doesn't sound worth the odds. Is this a problem stemming from me having a bootcamp partition on the old drive and not deleting it before I backed up? Does it still think there is a windows partition which doesn't exist? I REALLY don't want to have to sit through another 48 hour long backup, plus then having to restore from that. And I REALLY don't want to have to tear the laptop open again and swap drives around. Can I use my old hard drive as a source for a restore onto my new drive? Is the 48 hours for 80gb even normal? and is there any simpler way to get boot camp to recognize it as only having the one partition? thanks for any help Last edited by flcon16; 11-23-2008 at 01:31 AM. |
