BackUp hangs at 3%

Am trying out the free version on my new PB. On a clean Tiger install (with updates and software installed) the back up hangs at 3%. The first 0-3% copies quickly but it reamins on 3% therefater. There is no error message diaplayed.

Any ideas why?

It's very hard to say, Jim -- there's no a lot to go on there. When you say "hang", I assume you don't mean "spinning pinwheel", but -- rather -- no progress is made.

If you do an occasional "cmd-i" on the desitnation drive, is the amount of free space going down?

Dave - sorry for the lack of info.

What i mean is it looks like SD is backing up - no warning, no spinning wheel, nothing diiferent in the GUI - just the amount backup stays at 3% (after 8 hours). There is no change in the amount of space used on the destination drive (tho will try again tonight)

I've been trying to B_UP from my log-in. Reading the release notes now at work it suggests logging out and rstarting, so as to not load various SWare. i do have office installed - could other installed software be the problem?

I have Quicksilver running in the background but not much else.

One thing you didn't mention; are you backing up directly to the external drive, or to an image?

Hi - sorry for the delay and a bit more info now -
I was trying to copy the Macintosh HD (56Gig capacity) to Partition 1 of my external USB HDD (Partition Capacity 57gig) via the copy to .dmg option (the only one available).

The copy proceeds quickly at first then stops on the 'copying music' folder. The HDD still sounds as if its working (after 8 hours) but nothing further happens. I can copy (drag and drop) 50gig to this external partition without any problems.

Had to force remove the HDD and have included the entire SuperDooper log log. Hope this helps - has all my attempts to copy on it (i think).

J.
