Would this work/Has anyone done this?

Hi all,

So I've recently begun using SD in conjunction with Time Machine to back up my MBP. The drive I use for SD is one cobbled from a drive I ripped from an old Ext USB and stuck into a Macally G-S350SUA (USB/FW400/eSata) enclosure.

It took me 3hrs to make my first backup of system drive (~140GB) via FW. I realize SMART update would make subsequent backups faster, but I was wondering if it was possible to make my backups via eSATA, and use FW to boot or access the drive if I should need to recover?

It's probably a silly question, since in my mind I don't see why not... but my mind has failed me in the past...

Thanks!
