Safety Clone or Clone

I have an external FW drive partitioned with a Clone and a Safety Clone
by SuperDuper. My question is I want to install Tiger on the external drive,
I'm running Panther on the main drive. Should I intstall Tiger on the Safety Clone or the Clone. If I install it on the Safety Clone will that effect files
on the Source drive that has Panther. I'm just a bit confused by the the two different clones (I bet you guessed that by now). As always any help is greatly appreciated.

If you want to isolate the OS install, you want to install it on the Safety Clone, not on the original drive.

Remember, though -- there are data differences between Tiger and Panther. It's important to read my FAQ about Tiger Compatibility, and understand that if you're not using IMAP, you could have some trouble if you want to roll back to Panther: POP messages taken off the server, or filed in folders, won't be available....

Hope that helps!

Thanks for responding so quickly. I know there will be data differences between Tiger and Panther that's why I didn't know if I should apply it to the Clone or Safety Clone. Would I be better off applying it to the Clone that is on an external FW drive that is partioned? Wouldn't that mean I would leave my main internal drive alone and that would still have Panther while I test out Tiger on my external drive. Does that make sense?

You could, indeed, try that -- and rather than applying it to a copy, you can do a clean install and then migrate the settings (and apps) from your Panther install.

Then, check it out, and if you're happy, you can copy the whole thing back.

Note, though -- the data differences still apply. If you try to roll back to Panther, your mail won't necessarily be there...
