Do you always get an error with this same file, fdwlaw? If so, try duplicating Adobe Reader 7.0.5.app in Finder. If that works, delete the original (empty your trash) and rename the copy back to the original name, then try again.
If you get an error when duplicating in Finder, delete Reader, empty your trash and reinstall from the Adobe web site. If it's moving around, try simplifying your FW bus by disconnecting anything but your external drive...
