Kernel Panic attack using SD2.5

Hi Dave,

I was doing a backup to my Firewire using SD 2.5. It had nearly finished the backup when the dreaded kernel panic attacked. Obviously I had to restart but has the backup been corrupted? The crash panic log see below.

Do you think it was anything to do with SuperDuper? It isn't mentioned.

Jeffus.

Edit, I should mention Dave I had open apps open (I don't normally backing up with SD with open apps, just forgot to close them). Just done another Smart backup this time I got the freeze up. I have auto update dissabled. Got to 60,000 files out of 140,000 evaluated then progress bar stopped as did everything else apart from SD clock. Then it finished and the normal 3 green bar screen appeared.

This panic is being sent by the low-level file system, and is indicating an error when writing to a drive. It's possible that the destination drive is failing for some reason, and I'd both restart (which you're forced to do) and erase/zero the drive.

Crash

Thanks Dave, very strange drive is less than a year old and is giving me no reason/cause for concern. Can't use SMART 'cause not supported. Earlier today I used TechTool Pro to check out the drive and no problems reported.

It's not really the SMART status, but rather that it might have been FW flakiness either on source or destination, port, cable, etc. But the file system definitely wasn't happy... otherwise it wouldn't have tossed a panic.

Many thanks again Dave, you're a star. I'm glad it was nothing to do with SD.

Kernel panic here, too

Yesterday I accidentally deleted my first and only SuperDuper! backup instead of updating it. So I restarted with extensions off and started a new complete backup. However, at some point my MacBook's screen went black and nothing could bring it back to life, so I held down the power button to restart it.

Since then I have attempted to backup my MacBook 4 times, and every time has resulted in a kernel panic, a dimmed screen with a multilingual message saying I need to hold down the power button to restart it. Although there have been 4 successive attempts since the one I interrupted, only that interrupted one has been logged (it's attached below).

What, if anything, can I do to get SuperDuper! working again? My backup drive is only two months old.

As I indicated in an reply to your email, SD! can't be the reason for a Kernel Panic (we have no kernel components), so something's wrong that we're triggering. See your email for some suggestions, and send me the requested diagnostics so I can try to help you.
