Booting from Backup
Yesterday I ran "Backup - all files" to one of two partitions on a brand new external hard drive. When the backup was completed, I visited "Startup Disk" in System Preferences, but my drive was not listed.
Are their certain drives not supported to boot from? I'm using an USB 2.0 + SATA external drive interface with a Western Digital 250GB SATA hard drive inside. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! |

As indicated in the User's Guide, you can't start up a Power PC mac from a USB drive, keegan...

Dave, in the upcoming Universal Binary version, will this work (on Intel-based Macs)? Dunno how much you'll have to change to get a partition "blessed" for booting if it's via USB (which the Intel machines will do)...
Thanks, Dan |

It will work for an Intel Mac, yes, but not a Power PC one -- Open Firmware doesn't support the USB drives the right way for OSX to work with them, but EFI does.

Man, you just scored points, answering so quickly! I'm performing a 4-partition move from an older FW hard drive to a new Rocstor right now, my first use of SuperDuper. If all goes well, I'm definitely going to be sending you some $$$, my friend!
Thanks for what looks to be a solid product, and quick service. Dan |

Thanks, Dan. Note that I don't think Rocstor uses Oxford bridge chips (though they may have changed this since the last time I looked): you might want to verify that, since Initio bridges have proven to be troublesome with OSX in the past...
