Not using file vault
By hang I mean no activity for over an hour. I'm only copying around 60G so it usually doesn't take more than 90 minutes for the entire job to run. I just started another test after erasing the destination partition with Disk Utility and verified both the source and destination with Disk Utility. Thanks for the super fast response!
