Duh. RTFM, I guess.

Well, since the Chameleon boot manager does not allow for a boot off of a USB device, I won't be able to restore my system volume that way.

So I'll have to free the external drive from it's housing (unfortunately, this will destroy the housing) but it will let me boot of the then newly installed internal SATA drive. For about 30 euros I can get a swap frame setup and the copy speed should also improve!

Thanks again for your speedy reply - although I should have known better...
