Question Backing up Leopard from Tiger partition?

I know that SD! is not able to work correctly from a Leopard environment, but if we're using it from a Tiger partition, are we able to backup Leopard files? We read something about Leopard backups not being bootable, but is that when it's used in the Leopard environment, or Tigers? Hope I asked that right
