Sandbox - how to copy *all* apps?

Trying to use SD for a testing environment as a build new software packages.

The problem I'm having is that the "Sandbox" function excludes 3rd party apps, simply linking back to the originals instead. This means, for example, that if I push an upgrade of a 3rd party app to my Sandbox as a test... well, it is a bit of a flawed test.

I need to be able to test updates to MS Office, Firefox, Adobe products, etc. without disturbing my primary partition. Is there a workaround other than simply doing a full backup? I like the Sandbox concept, and love the idea of testing it under a "normal" user account instead of some pristine one that hasn't been logged into, but it just seems to fall a bit short.
