backup medium?

I'm planning to upgrade my backup strategy from 3.5" hard disks.

Just out of curiosity, what are the comparative advantages of using a full-up external SSD for backup, as opposed to, say, an SSD thumb drive? Are these equivalent, functionally? Is there a speed advantage in USB-C?

Sorry, these are not specifically SuperDuper questions, but of general backup strategy.

Thumbdrives are not appropriate for this. They're generally not high quality, have poor controllers, are slow, etc. Don't do that.

Instead, get a portable SSD like the WD MyPassport SSD (about $150 for 1TB):

Thank you. That's exactly the kind of wisdom I was looking for.
