smart updating users

i am doing two backups, one is a smart update "mirror" bootable clone on one drive, then on the second drive i want to just back-up the users folder. my question is on the second drive. i store other materials on this drive, outside the users folder. what selection/backup procedure do i do to keep my users folder an exact mirror (as the main drive's users folder) but also allows for other files to be stored on this external drive, outside the users folder. thanks in advance.

If you want to do this, you should either partition the second drive to isolate the backup, or use a sparse image as described in the FAQ ("How do I update an image?") to store the backup side-by-side.

A partition is best, but the other method will work as well.

Hope that helps!
