Post Closing all applications during a backup

I am new to SuperDuper and very happy with it. I searched well the entire guide and consult many threads of the Forum while i made my first tries.
I learned well, but of course, i miss some points.

This is a first one... (i observed your great availability!)

You suggest that we should close all applications before a backup. More, log out of our account and then log back in with Shift key held down to prevent any starup items from running (User's Guide p. 5). Is it realy important and how can we do that with schedule backups?

And by the way, i don't know why my screen saver does't work during my backups and the screen activity is not suspended as normaly.
