SD 2.1.4 - LaCie firewire drive doesn't boot
I am a new mac user. It is a G4 laptop running OSX 10.1.4.
I used an unregistered copy of SD to copy all files from MacHD -> LaCie FW 250 GB drive (design by porsche) The drive was brand new. I formatted it and the resulting log was "HFS Plus volume with a 24576K journal". The initial copy completed without error and then "Make LaCie drive bootable" was checked. If I then reboot while holding down the "T" key, the LaCie logo floats on the screen, but it never boots from the drive. I thought I waited long enough, but is there anything I can check on the drive? I don't want to change System Preferences because then if there is a problem booting from the LaCie, I may have a bigger problem. Thank you in advance for any pointers. Anne |

"T" doesn't boot from the drive, Anne. It just starts in FireWire target disk mode. (The logo you see is the FireWire logo.)
Assuming the drive is properly partitioned (check in Disk Utility -- when you select the drive it should say "GUID" under Partition Scheme for an Intel Mac, or "Apple Partition Map" for a Power PC Mac), you can hold down Option when starting and choose the drive. You can also pick it in the Startup Disk preference pane. Hope that helps!

Thank you!
Under Disk Utility, if I select LaCie Partition Options Apple Partition Map (was Master Boot Record) OK uncheck Mac OS 9 Disk Drivers (repartitions, erasing any data) Then I redid the SD Backup. When it's finished, I can reboot, holding down the Option key, select the LaCie drive, and boot from the external drive. Great! Thanks so much! Anne |
