Scheduled backup to encrypted image on network volume?

Hi,

Is there a way to do a scheduled backup to a network drive using an encrypted image? I'd like to have the image mount before and after backup automatically but have the image password-protected. Possible?

And since there are smilies,

Love,
Tara

Yes, this is possible. Create an encrypted sparse image of the proper size using Disk Utility. Then, point SuperDuper!'s "Disk image..." pop-up choice (in the destination menu) to this image. Should work just fine.

Pardon me for asking but, wouldn't the disk image need to be already mounted before the copy operation can proceed?

No: SuperDuper! will mount the image (prompting for the password, unless it's in the keychain, which I recommend), copy and then unmount.

That is good to know. I think this info will be useful to me in my on-going attempts to use SD! to securely back-up my FileVaulted home directory.

Also, in terms of the "Disk Image..." dialog in the destination pop-up menu.
Are you saying that is possible to choose a previously created encrypted disk image from that dialog?

Since the options in that dialog don't include any encryption settings, it is not clear to me how one would 'point' to a previously created encrypted image. The dialog box seems to be a 'Save as" type, rather than an 'Open' type dialog...

Yes, that can be a bit confusing -- we didn't want two commands there. But, click the existing image file (it'll be grey) and we'll use it.
