usb 2.0 vs. firewire 400

I have the Lacie Big D2 500 G drives. They can work as USB2 or Firewire. SD manuals seem to prefer Firewire but that informatio may be out of date so I thought I'd ask.

I'd prefer using USB because I can use a hub to plug into and only use one port on my MAC. I have 3 ext. drives, a printer and I will probably add a wireless USB mouse.

So is Firewire still the one and only way to go or is USB 2.0 reliable now too for use with SD and the iMac?
