backing up tiger to a computer running panther

hi - i have a macbook running os x 10.4.11 that i need to back up. i have an old emac with 100GB space available, but it is running 10.3.9 and is not partitioned. partitioning it is not an option at the moment and thus am thinking that i will use the Read/Write "Sparse" Image backup option.

will the different operating systems pose any particular issues/ problems? should i backup only user files, or should i go ahead & backup all even though the target op system is older? would the older operating system on the target computer affect the bootability of a full backup?

thanks for any & all help.
