Backing up Desktop DB and Desktop DF
Hello
Gave SD a try and I've gotta say it's the best solution I've found so far for backing up entire Mac drives while preserving metadata, but I've found one small glitch that may or may not be fixable-- could be something I'm overlooking, I don't know... I have quite a number of zip files that I downloaded back in the days of OS 9 using a download manager that used OS 9's comments feature in the most novel way: it stored the URL used to get that file there in case I needed a reference of where it came from. After backing these up with SD though, I noticed that SD does not store the Desktop DB and Desktop DF files that, as far as I know, is where OS 9 keeps the comment information. Thus, all that comment metadata was lost. Is there any specific reason why SD omits the Desktop DB and Desktop DF files when backing up? Could there perhaps be an option to force SD to copy these two files? I don't think there would be much if any harm since Toast Titanium has a similar option when burning CD's. Thanks |

We do consciously not copy those OS9 files to cause the desktop to be rebuilt when starting up from a full copy. You can use the general steps in the "Excluding files and folders from a backup" to copy those files, though, if you'd like... just override our exclude by adding copies.

Ah, got it. See, I knew it had to be something I was overlooking!
Thanks again! |
