best way to restore a system

I know i did this once before and had some hassles so i want to make sure i have it right this time. I make a full bootable OS on my external firewire drive with Superduper. I am about to load Leopard which I know Superduper is not compatible with. If I dont like or want to revert back to tiger which is on my bootable drive whats the best way to do this (erasing everything on my internal drive and restoring) or do I have to use something to make an image file or something ?

cheers
