using SD to back up macs to HP MediaSmart Server

I've recently soured on Time Machine -- and I'm looking for a better solution. I'd like to back up my Macs to our MediaSmart Server, but it keeps refusing to mount the drive.

Is this the driver or the bus that's the problem here?

Thanks,
/john bryan
