Has nothing to do with SD! However, in Leopard it is easier to change the short user name than it was in previous OSX versions.
See this article: http://www.macworld.com/article/1326...tusername.html Note that changing both the short user name and the name of the user's home folder will break paths that include the name of that home folder.
