Smart Update Question

If I have deleted photos, or other files, from HD, and do a smart update, will SD replace them from the last update? What I want to do is simply copy new files and or programs and not change HD content. Will smart update do this?
Thanks Jerry

PS: Here is a portion of a reply to another user that seems to apply

Smart Update is a *superset* of Copy Newer. It copies newer files, and changed files, etc. It also ensures any files that are removed from the source are removed from the destination, too.

It is the "files that are removed" part that I need help with. If I have moved photos to another drive and they exist on the total copy or destination drive as well, will they be put back on HD at next smart update?
